Wiener Staatsoper

Die aufwändige Wiener Staatsoper

Okay, I definitely used Google Translate for that because I do not speak German (or Austrian German for that matter). However, when I travelled with my mother and my aunt to Vienna, Austria, a few summers ago, we stayed right down the street from the Vienna Opera House, and let me tell you it is the definition of the word elaborate. Webster should put its picture next to the word in the dictionary.

I like to think back to what it must have been like to experience this opera house upon its grand opening. The glittering gowns, the jeweled accessories (definitely would wear a tiara), and the overflowing champagne coupes discarded by attendees and leaving behind a sticky remanent of the night before on the marble tiled floor—I know it sounds something straight out of Baz Luhrmann film (and I’m 100% okay with it). So perhaps I’m romanticizing it; perhaps I’m not.

Either way, its grandeur remains exquisite and sehr aufwendig.
